Interesting article: “In Whose Interest: Do National Nonprofit Advocacy Organizations Represent the Under-represented?”

April 10, 2008

I recently came across this article (below picture) by Cynthia Gibson. Although it was written more than two years ago, I think it’s relevant to content development in today’s New Media/Social Web environment. One way that nonprofits can truly represent their constituents is by creating media WITH the people they serve; media content that derives directly from their experiences.

P.S. I’m thinking the masks in the accompanying art are meant to evoke ‘representation’, right?

In Whose Interest: Do National Nonprofit Advocacy Organizations Represent the Under-represented?

By Cynthia M. Gibson, Ph.D

Nonprofit Quarterly: Summer 2006

“… Of particular interest is whether national nonprofit advocacy organizations that were established to provide grassroots citizens with a “voice” in the policy-making process continue to represent them in that arena.”

Read the rest of the article by copying and pasting the link below (WordPress doesn’t like this link for some reason):
