Update on Nonprofits hit by Madoff Scam

December 30, 2008

picture-4In an earlier post, I wrote that Bernard Madoff’s monumental scam is causing several foundations to close. As a result, grantees of these foundations, namely progressive nonprofit organizations, are feeling the pinch. Several may be forced to curtail or cut important projects or even lay off staff.

As a result, MoveOn.org in collaboration with Atlantic Philanthropies and the Open Society Institute are asking their members to pitch in to help the victims of this unprecedented fraud. They are targeting four groups now:

Can you pitch in $25 or $50 for each of the four organizations? Our friends at Atlantic Philanthropies and the Open Society Institute will each match every dollar that comes in until January 1! So, for the next three days, your donation of $25 or $50 means $75 or $150 for groups affected by Madoff. If a few thousand of us give together, it can make an enormous difference—and help repair some of the damage Madoff has done. Click here to contribute.
